When I saw this tip about softening butter and I just had to try it. It's perfect for the times when you need softened butter quickly but don't want it melted. At our house someone is always "Can we make cookies" and of course the butter is never soft and ready to use, so we have to wait until it gets soft and who can wait that long when you're wanting a warm and delicious chocolate chip cookie right now?
Here's the process: Fill a pan with water and bring it to a boil, you could even let it boil for a minute or so. Then fill a cup or a mason jar with the water. Let the water sit in the cup/jar for a minute until the jar gets really hot! Then dump out the water and place the cup over the butter and onto a plate.
Fresh out of the fridge
Now it's softened
In the first experiment I took the butter out of the paper wrapper. There was a little bit of melted butter on the plate when all was said and done but the butter was definitely softened and ready to use.
In the second experiment we left the paper on the butter and it worked out just fine. That's the method I would recommend, but with either method you get soft butter. It may take up to 5 minutes or so but that is so much quicker than just letting it sit out and soften that way.
Here are the cookies that we made with the softened butter. They are called the Ultimate Chocolate Chip cookies. I love this recipe because it only calls for 1 cube of butter. Most recipes call for 2 cubes of butter and that can get expensive. I use a small ice cream scoop and can get about 35 cookies out of this recipe. It is such a yummy cookie. I've practically got the recipe memorized I've made it so many times. I'm so happy to have finally found a recipe that turns out so nice and tastes so good!
