Now for some food the the men will love! Sloppy Joes are a meal in themselves. I used a seasoning package for years when I made sloppy joes. Then one day I tried a "from scratch recipe" and absolutely loved it. Really tastes better made with your fresh ingredients. This recipe comes from the Ivory Family Cookbook This is such a fabulous cookbook, real comfort food that's delicious.
Ingredients:
3 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped green pepper
1 cup ketchup
1 15 ounce can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown suar
12 to 18 hamburger buns
In a large skillet, brown ground beef and drain fat. Add chopped onion, celery and green pepper and cook 5 minutes. Stir in ketchup, tomato sauce, vinegar, Worcestershire and brown sugar and simmer for 30 minutes. Spoon into hamburger buns. Placed sliced pickles and grated cheese on top of the hamburger mixture and put top bun on it. You can cut the recipe in half for a smaller crowd. Bon Appetit!
